Mapping Quo Vadis? (1913-16)

This map animates local premieres for “little” (+) and “big” (o) versions of Quo Vadis? that circulated in the United States between 1913 and 1916. The animated map is from my article “‘Big’ and ‘little’ Quo Vadis? in the United States, 1913-1916: Using GIS to map rival modes of feature cinema during the transitional era.” The article appears in a special issue on film distribution and exhibition for the open access scholarly journal Images: The International Journal of European Film, Performing Arts and Audiovisual Communication (vol. 32, no.41, January 5, 2023 pp. 5-25). The journal is published by Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, and the special issue was edited by Konrad Klejsa at University of Łódź in Łódź, and Małgorzata Miławska-Ratajczak at Adam Mickiewicz University. My thanks to the journal, the issue editors, the outside reviewers, and the editorial team for bringing this invigorating collection of historical studies to fruition despite the trying times of the present moment.
